I’ve partnered with Universal Pictures for this fun party and yummy recipe. Let’s Party!
An evening with your girlfriends to celebrate the release of Fifty Shades Darker featuring trendy grey marble patterns, copper accents and Red Wine Hot Chocolate! This night is sure to please the senses and enhance your desires!
This Valentine’s Day, slip into something a shade darker and throw a cocktail party your girlfriends are sure to love! With these simple tools, you can easily throw a Girl’s Night and still have time to party. Any good cocktail party must have three important things: great friends, tasty drinks and scrumptious appetizers. The key to making the whole party come together is presentation.
When Universal Pictures contact me about throwing a Fifty Shades Darker Masquerade Party, I pulled together some of my fave party trends with minimal effort. Currently, the copper trend is taking over from fashion to home to parties. Grab simple pieces that you can use to accessorize your display table. A punch bowl can be used to give height to a table and a tiered stand is perfect for appetizers. An easy way to change the look of your backdrop is to use wrapping paper. The shades of grey marble wrapping paper was easy to hang with pushpins. Simply layer with a shimmer metallic fringe backdrop and you have created a focal piece for your party setup. Just remember to have fun while planning the party and not to get stressed over the presentation.
Party Tip: Make sure to have enough wine for the party. The Fifty Shades of Grey Wine was a perfect fit and looked great styled on the table. I wanted to have a cheese tray filled with succulent grapes, ripe apples, juicy strawberries and mozzarella wrapped in salami. Fill free to add in more cheeses and meats to fit your needs. For presentation, rub a lemon on the apples so they do not turn during your party.
Appetizers: There are so many appetizers that would be perfect for a cocktail party. I chose simple and easy options that assemble in minutes. A must-have for any party, are my fave Blue Cheese Honey Dips. Cover your favorite water cracker with a nice quality blue cheese (yes, splurge on this item) and then drizzle with honey. Party Tip: I leave the honey drizzle out and ready to use just before everyone arrives.
When choosing appetizers, consider the colors of the display. With the copper and rustic woods coming from the same tones, I wanted a bold color option that provided a punch to the display. The Pea Tapenade Bruschetta Chips with Carrot Sliver were perfect. A fresh, clean and yummy option to have on hand. These didn’t last long at all!
Finally, presentation is everything when serving appetizers. Toppings help finish the look and deceive your guests into thinking you spent hours working on the food. The Crab Salad Parmesan Crisps were topped with fresh Cilantro. Make sure to choose a topping that is part of the appetizer and let your guests know what is inside of the dish.
Desserts: I am not a baker. So I like to keep the desserts at my parties simple. Don’t feel intimated to just stop by your local bakery or boutique grocery store for help. Keep in mind that everything should be bite sized so that your girlfriends can sample and talk. For the Fifty Shades Darker Party, I went with Mocha Latte Macaroons, Chocolate Liquor Cups dipped in peppermint white chocolate and covered with a powder sugar dusted strawberry and Better Than Sex Cookie Bars. Decadent and something to satisfy everyone’s cravings.
Balloon garlands are an easy and cheap way to add wow to any party. Just blow up several colors of balloons and attach them to string. For this party, I wanted to incorporate tree branches and roses to the balloons. Party Tip: Balloons should be blown up hours before the party. They will deflate in your home so plan ahead when timing out your setup.

What if you could pair your fave red wine AND chocolate into a party cocktail that is sure to tempt your girlfriends? Something that could satisfy any woman’s cravings and thirst. Make this rich, warm, and tantalizing drink at your next party. Your guests will love that you greet them at the door with a warm drink during the cold months.
Desire – Red Wine Hot Chocolate
3 cups milk
2 cup red wine (I used Fifty Shades of Grey Red Satin Wine)
1 cup dark chocolate chunks (I used Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate Bar)
Optional: Dark Chocolate Decoration and Whipped Cream
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and chocolate chunks. Whisking constantly until chocolate is melted into milk and you have a thick and creamy chocolate milk. Pour in red wine and heat until everything is hot. Grab your mug and set the dark chocolate decoration on top. When your girlfriends arrive, add the whipped cream and pour the warm Red Wine Hot Chocolate into the mug. Your guests will love the presentation and the delectable warm cocktail.
My friends love any chance they get to pose for the camera. The backdrop for my display table doubled as a photo booth. With a mask, a few props and some wine — they had the best time getting into character. I’m sure Christian Grey would be proud. This party is all about fairy tales that have a dark side. Don’t be afraid to have fun and let loose!
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter based on the worldwide bestselling “Fifty Shades” phenomenon. Expanding upon events set in motion in 2015’s blockbuster film that grossed more than $560 million globally, the new installment arrives for Valentine’s Day and invites you to slip into something a shade darker.
When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.
Also returning from Fifty Shades of Grey are Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Ehle, Victor Rasuk, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini, who are joined for the first time by Oscar® winner Kim Basinger, Bella Heathcote and Eric Johnson.
Fifty Shades Darker is directed by James Foley (Fear, House of Cards) and once again produced by Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Marcus Viscidi, alongside E L James, the creator of the culture-spanning blockbuster series. The screenplay is by Niall Leonard, based on the novel by James.
