Have Your Own Spa Day Party

If the weekend is intended to be an escape from everyday pressures, why are you spending it purchasing overpriced drinks at a crowded pub? Then, waiting a long time for a table in the trendy new restaurant that started up down the street. And finally, finishing the night off by sitting in traffic trying to get home?

It’s time to treat yourself to some relaxation and pampering -we are talking about the joys of a spa day. And there is no need to pay major bucks when you can make a little tranquility in your home.

From how to decorate, to the products (and the snacks) you will indulge in, we have got your relaxation guide for entertaining you and your friends for the most relaxing spa day. On Monday, you will be prepared to take the week by storm.

Set The Mood

You are having people over, so you know to pick up your clothes, vacuum your floor and clean your toilet. (Sincerely, when was the last time you cleaned the bathroom mirror?) However, to convert your regular digs into a lavishing spa, you will require a few additional touches.

Place Candles Everywhere

Unless you are hydrophobic, nothing is more appealing than candles. They smell great, give off a gentle light, and are soothing. That is why spa centers put them, well, throughout the different areas.

Also, rather than scattering a few tealights and calling it a day, opt for something more imaginative (and undoubtedly more eye-catching), such as floating candle centerpieces.  Another option, fill the jars with water and put a tealight candle on top.  To create them, grab a pack of pint-sized mason jars and fill each an inch high with glass pebbles or marbles.

Your guests will feel like they walked into a hotel.

Scatter a few Flowers and Plants

If you are not good in crafts (we cannot all be Martha Stewart), just to get a good number of plants (or blossoms, if you are less committal) to brighten up your at-home spa. Instead of costly vases, take those mason jars and your favorite flowers.  Select a flower to fill the rest of the jars. (Gardenias and roses are just two of the most fragrant types.)

The starting price of Trader Joe’s bouquets is only $4.99, so you will easily get a package without spending much. Combine and match wildflowers, tulips and cut them short so that they look full into the jar.

For plants, succulents come with little maintenance, affordable option that you can purchase in bulk. You may leave them as-is or replant your new little buddies in small bowls, mason jars, or teacups.

Pick Up an Oil Diffuser

essential oil for spa party

Buy an aromatherapy oil diffuser for this spa party — you’ll perhaps use it daily, so it’s worth the cost. Get one for less than $20 on online or your local retailer and pair it with your favorite essential oils.

Not sure which scent you enjoy? Studies have revealed lavender reacts with the brain the same way that anti-anxiety medications do. Basically (get it), it calms your mind. Or try a different pack for a sampling of scents.

BYO Fuzzy Slippers

You’re going to be providing pretty much everything, so it does not hurt to ask your friends to bring a couple of things. Implement a sweatpants or strict leggings policy, and advise guests to collect their fuzzy slippers, comfy hoodie or robe, and sandals for pedicures.

Positively, you’re going to unwind — though you also mean trade.

Throw on a Calming Playlist

Finally, make the mood with some quiet background music. And no, we are not talking about Taylor Swift or Drake — save them for New Year celebration. Search Spotify for playlists named “Relaxing Vibes” or “Chill Out Music” to discover melodies you’ve possibly never listened, but will likely act as your morning soundtrack from here on out. We enjoy “Petals” by Bibio for providing a real feel of how this hot day is going to down.

Then Set It Up At Home

Exactly like an original spa, each treatment requires its own dedicated area — you cannot massage where you meditate and facial where you manicure. Here’s the way to set up everything so your visitors can move effortlessly and efficiently from one station to another (without messing up one nail in the processes).

Mani-Pedis

For the manicure station, free up your dining table and put the basics: cotton balls, polish remover, nail file, cuticle cutter, cream, clippers, buffer, a variety of polish colors, and a fan for drying (and some paper towels to protect your table). Invite guests to chit chat while their nails dry, and ask each other for help with their free hand, if necessary. Not essential for Mary to get polish all over her left hand if the secret talent of Lesley
is nail art.

Tip- The best part of having a professional manicure is the hot towel and hand massage, but you can completely mimic that first part here (more on the next later). Thoroughly wet your washcloths in warm water, then roll them up and place into a slow cooker on low heat. (For additional luxury, drop some essential oil in there.)  The pot that is closed will keep the towels warm until you are ready to give your hands a steam bath.

Now, moving onto pedicures. Some inexpensive bins, disposable foot files, and Toe separators are the only additions you will require. Fill up them and give your friends a choice of bath salts to pick from. (Guys, this is when you throw that Christmas present you never opened.

Just be sure it is not from one of your visitors.) Even if not everyone wants polish, who does not want to appreciate an Epsom salt warm water soak?

Face masks

It isn’t a spa day with no face mask. (For some, it is not even a Tuesday.) You will want masks since every skin type has different requirements, you’ll require multiple masks. In the living area, set up a couple of bowls with signs recognizing specific mask, a few paintbrushes so the hands of people don’t get dirty, headbands to keep the goop away from your hair, and hand mirrors so everybody can see what they are doing.

What type of masks will you make?  Here’s a cheat sheet:

  • For dry skin- The fatty acids in olive and avocado oil help close skin cells, so try mixing those with honey and plain yogurt — or search for other avocado mask ideas.
  • For oily skin- The acid in lemon juice is known to reduce excess oil and eliminate dead skin cells. Use it with (chilled) cooked oatmeal to minimize redness and an egg.

Try a few more, like masks for sensitive skin and acne-prone skin so everyone can participate without feeling like there is a breakout in their near future,

Massages

If you all do not want to hire a massage therapist to come to your house, then improvise. This doesn’t need to be as intimate as it seems, but get a feel (sorry, we cannot help ourselves) of the group dynamic to learn if your friends would be down with this one. Get some natural oils and concentrate on massaging areas such as shoulders and the arms to hands.

The hands hold numerous pressure points that ease stress and tension: Some easy ones for newbies include smoothly applying pressure to the muscles between the index finger and thumb, where the thumb meets the hand (also palm side) and under the pinky where the hand joins the wrist (palm side).
For shoulders, focus on producing circular motions with your thumbs, after shoulder kneading (pressing the shoulders with alternating hands). Move your fingers with the shoulders while holding down firmly and finish with finger presses along the neck.

The best benefit of giving a massage? Getting one in return.

Meditation Lounge

Though your entire home is going to be zen, take it one step further and designate one area (i.e., bedroom, office, or wherever you have space) as a meditation lounge. Organize yoga mats or blankets and pillows on the floor for guests to lie on for 15 minutes (or more), either in silence or with a guided meditation from Spotify or iTunes on the speakers. We propose limiting the lounge to two people at a time and applying a strict no Smartphone rule — so people feel revitalized when they leave.

Then Serve It Up

You did not think we would let you and your buddies go hungry, did you? And as the objective is to feel re-energized at the end of this, these menu items will beat your hunger without bogging you down. (Sorry, that means no pumpkin spice lattes or Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.)

Detox Water

Select any fruit to add to your detox water, and it can be anything you would like it to be. A classic is lemons, which encourage nourishment and weight loss, aside from refreshing and have many nervous system advantages. Cucumbers taste good, deliver antioxidants, and are high in vitamin B5 (which encourages healthy skin) and vitamin K (which supports bone health).

If you’re searching for something sweeter, strawberries can help burn stored fat, boost short-term memory, and have anti-aging properties. A stocked tea box with several caffeine-free tea varietals is proven to reduce anxiety and stress so you will want them at your home spa day.

The menthol in Peppermint tea works as a natural muscle relaxant that is natural and will provide you a feeling of complete calm. (In this vein, start looking for additional herbal teas brewed with mint) Chamomile tea is proven to decrease anxiety and stress and cure insomnia/relax the muscles.

Create Yummy Yogurt Bowls

Allow everyone to produce the dreams’ yogurt bowl.  You may even award a gift card to the guest who makes the most Instagrammable bowl?

Turn your kitchen counter (or a bar chart, if you are fancy) to a customizable station with bowls and spoons, a big tub of plain Greek yogurt, several fruits (oranges, pineapple, blueberries, kiwi, etc.), chopped or sliced nuts, granola, honey, and anything else you desire.

Hummus and Veggie Cups

You can never go wrong with crudités and hummus. Rather than making your guests hang over a dish, put the scoops of hummus in cups and garnish with carrots, celery, and bell peppers — pretty and practical.

Deviled Eggs

Everyone loves to eat deviled eggs, but we are all too lazy to make them. Since the subject of the day is decadence, show your guests you went the extra mile by preparing this special treat. You’ll require mayo, a dozen eggs, and mustard (and a pastry bag, if you are feeling particularly fancy) — attempt this Creole model for a spicy twist. You might not be Martha Stewart, but show them you are a Rachael Ray.

Avocado Toast, duh

Can there be anything tastier than avocado toast? Enhance your slices with basic toppings such as Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend, chili flakes, Sriracha, or, poppy seeds. The options are infinite.

Provide Guests With a Spa Item To Take Home

OK, it is not a Sweet 16 or a bridal shower, but it is great to provide your pals a token to take home. Our recommendation: Homemade foot scrub. (And trust us; it is simpler to create than you think.)

Coconut Salt Scrub

This Wonderful Wonky blogger says you only require three ingredients ( vitamin E oil, coarse salt, and coconut oil) to make her foot scrub, and can modify the recipe depending on how much you will want to create — just keep the salt to oils ratio 2:1. (For additional scent, add essential coconut oil.) Pack your scrub in 4oz
mason jars knotted with twine or ribbon.

Lemon Foot Scrub

Make this recipe depending on the number of guests, but you will need 1/4 cup coconut oil, 2 cups granulated sugar, and around six drops of lemon essential oil. Once again, pack your scrub in mason jars and decorate with twine or ribbon. If your friends are currently requesting you to host another spa day, they will have this gift to wave over them. And hey, just send them this At Home Spa Guide and ask, “Who is hosting next?”
